Assignment of Tasks Based on Grades and Bands – What if an Exception?

Before we get into the discussion about correct assignment of tasks according to grades and bands, let’s first understand the different levels within a large or medium-sized organization.
Level 1 – This includes junior members such as trainees, data entry operators, call center operators, helpdesk staff or analyst.
Level 2 – This is the operating consultant level. It includes developer, data base operator, consultant, and manager. The operating consultant is the front-line professional who generally works at the client’s company.
Level 3 – This is the role of a supervisor, such as a team leader, project manager or senior manager, senior consultant, or manager. These consultants have the main responsibilities of managing projects, team leadership, and supervising operations.
Level 4 – This level includes executive management such as Associate Vice Presidents, Heads of the department Lead consultants. This level is responsible for the entire department. These consultants are involved in various business strategies.
Level 5 and higher – This includes leadership team members such as director, managing partner, senior vice president, president, CEO, and partner. This level has a high-ranking and senior management role, including pre-sale work for important clients and the responsibility of completing critical assignments.
You can now choose to be in any of the levels. It doesn’t matter if a task is big or small. What matters is how it is done. It is important to keep your eyes on the goal and current circumstances. Assume that you are the project manager for the most important project in your company. The next day is a crucial day for you because it is the go-live date for your project. Your team is gathered in the data center for final project uploads. No member of your team would say no at this hour, no matter what small task he has been given, such as bringing water to a colleague, dropping off a female employee, or picking up packages from a freight carrier. There are many other tasks that are ‘low-level’. These were ‘incidents’, not ‘patterns. Sometimes, senior technical managers are asked for coding. This can be difficult for those who have not been in touch with programming for a while.
It’s not a good idea to assign anything unilaterally to anyone at any level. They should be given the chance to accept the responsibility or task. Senior managers could, and sometimes should, be given tasks.
They are the heirs of unique knowledge
They are unique and have enough organizational authority (power), to solve the problem.
Assume that a junior-level task is assigned to a senior manger. The company can choose to pay a senior manager for low-level tasks. This is a bad business model and should be stopped if it is done on a regular basis. The company also needs to make major improvements in its processes. Industries are full of arrogant people who believe there is no room to make exceptions. Sometimes it is what matters most, the ability to get to know people and work with them. A resourceful employee or resource will do whatever is asked of him.
These are the characteristics of an employee who would be willing to do this with a positive spirit
Intellectual and emotional maturity
Self-control in all circumstances
Flexibility to work in any condition
Courage, initiative, and perseverance in action
Genuine desire to help others
These are the characteristics of employees who won’t accept this in a positive spirit.
Immaturity
Inability to control oneself
Designation conscious
High ego
Inability to adapt to changing conditions and lack of flexibility
Overconfident
This chapter of PMI–PMP is crucial. The common ethics and code to conduct are very helpful. PMP certification teaches these qualities to individuals so that they can take everything in the right spirit, respect others, regardless of their designations and bands.
